RESUMO

Conocer la opinión de los profesionales de la odontología con respecto a la asistencia odontológica a personas VIH positivas. Doscientos treinta y cinco odontólogos contestaron una versión del formulario de la encuesta Survey of the Organization and Management Dental Clinical Practice. Para análisis de los datos se obtuvieron distribuciones de frecuencia y análisis univariada y bivariada, utilizando las pruebas Chi-cuadrado o exacta de Fischer, conmargen de error de 5,0%. Para el 25,2% de los casados, tratara pacientes con VIH aumentaba el riesgo de su familia contraer la enfermedad, bien como para13,4% de los solteros. Para el 75,4% de los casados, decidir tratar a pacientes con VIH requiera consulta previa con experto del área y 17,1% de los no estaban dispuestos a atender en sus consultorios aestos pacientes, porcentaje que para los solteros fue un 6,3%. Además, el 33,3% de los solteros afirmabanque toma más tiempo atender a estos pacientes; con que concordaran el 54,7% de los casados. Antes de decidir tratar a pacientes con VIH, un 38,5% de los casados considero el riesgo de contagiarse. Para el 31,4% de ese grupo, atender a los seropositivo será poco o nada prudente, y 31% rechazaba la idea. Un porcentaje mayor de casados buscaría a un profesional que supiera tratar a seropositivos. Para atender a seropositivos, los solteros se muestran más dispuestos que los casados; que estaban poco o nada dispuestos a atender a ellos, sino también a los con historia reciente de hepatitisb y/o tuberculosis.


To investigate dentists´ opinions about dental care to HIV-positive patients. Methods: Two hundred and thirty five dentists answered the Survey Form of the Dental Organization and Management Clinical Practice. For data analysis, frequency distributions, as well asunivariate and bivariate analysis were performed. Chi-square or Fisher exact test were used. The margin of error was 5.0%. For 25.2%of married professionals, to treat HIV patients increases the risk of their family to contract the disease, as well to 13.4% of the single ones. For 75.4% of married people the decision to treat HIV-positive patients required a previous consultation with expertise on this assistance, and17.1% of them were not willing to attend seropositive patients in their offices, while this percentage was 6.3% in single group. Additionally, 33.3% of single professionals considered spending more time during their care, while among married ones this percentage was 54.7%. Before deciding to treatHIV positive patients, 38.5% of married people considered the personal risk of infection. For 31.4% of this group, to take care of HIV patients is little or nothing prudent,and 31% censured it. A higher percentage of married sought to a dental care professional which could treat this kind of patients. Asto taking care of HIV patients, single dentists were more concordant than married ones,who showed little or no intention for neither these patients nor those with recent infection of hepatitis B and tuberculosis.
